MFA Show, 2013

My work explores the experience of walking and the way we come to know or feel connected to a place by moving through or around it. The walks I take are circular, beginning and ending in the same location, creating a circumference or border around a particular territory. I am specifically interested in the way this boundary that I am tracing with my body allows me to contain and name my experience in the landscape. Objects and images are often capable of standing in for intangible ideas and experiences in a way that imbues them with meaning and traces of memory. Through the process of collecting both the shapes of my walking routes and small objects that I find on each walk, I am assembling remnants of my time spent wandering in the city where I live.
